Description: Conjoining human history and prehistoric eons with fantasy, forming the intimidating Maip Rider.
Artist Statement: I want to shed light onto a world that was forgotten by time, and illustrate the amazing organisms time has left behind. Through traditional techniques, I wanted to craft a world where human history meets the past. I’m inspired by the ink prints of Ukio-e and He Xiangning. Hog hair brushes and wood blocks make prints feel raw and natural, highlighting the surrealism of the world I’m building. I aimed to mesh paleo-fauna, the Meiji era, and fantasy into a layered world of samurai and saurians.
