How do I search on the site?
Great question! There are several different ways to search.
On a computer
By student or school:
If you are on the home page, there is a search bar in the “Art and design share…” section, and if you are anywhere on the site, there is a magnifying glass in the upper right corner. Type the student’s name or school name into the search box, and all work by that student or from that school for all exhibitions will be displayed.
If you are on an artwork page, you can also use the tags to search for additional work from that school. Click the title of the school that appears below the title of the work to see all work from that school.
By exhibition:
In the top navigation, there is an “Exhibitions” menu with a down arrow. If you hover over “Exhibitions,” a list will appear, and you can select which exhibition you want to see. Click it, and you will be taken to that exhibition’s landing page.
Once you are at a landing page, your experience will differ. For All City, you can see a random selection of all works on the landing page or browse the Exhibition or Honorable mention projects. In Advanced Art, you can browse by class. Explore, and have fun!
If you are on an artwork page, you can also use the tags to search for additional work from that exhibition. Click the title of the exhibition that appears below the title of the work to see all work from that exhibition.
By media type:
While images are tagged, it is currently more difficult to search by media type. This website is a work in progress, and we’re hoping to make this more accessible in the future!
For now, to search by media type, we would recommend utilizing the home page search bar in the “Art and design share…” section, or if you are anywhere else on the site, the magnifying glass in the upper right corner. Type the student’s name or school name into the search box. The results will pull up all of the times that term appears on the site.
If you are on an artwork page, it is much easier to search by media type. Click the media type that appears below the title of the work to see all work of that media type.
All videos are hosted on the CPS Department of Arts Student Programs page on YouTube. There are playlists for each exhibition to browse, or you can search for specific students, schools, or artworks via the Magnifying Glass icon in the YouTube Menu.

How do I submit my work as a student, my child’s work, or my students’ work?
The Department of Arts Education accepts student work at predetermined times throughout the year, depending on the exhibition. Submission portals can be accessed within the submission guidelines document of the respective exhibition. You may find submission windows and guidelines for visual arts exhibitions here. Please click on the submission portal link that applies to you as a student, parent/guardian, or teacher.
How many students and schools are represented in these exhibitions?
More than 1,300 students and more than112 schools are represented in the All-City exhibitions, and we’re always working to grow those numbers even more! The selection team prioritizes one piece from each school/student that submits to each exhibition. As more students and schools participate, we strive for equity across the number of submissions accepted from each school. Our vision is for all students and schools to have an opportunity to visit, submit, and experience a high quality exhibition that is accessible to all.
My student attends a Charter school. Can they still submit to the All-City Visual Arts Exhibitions?
Yes! All students (including district-managed, charter, contract, and options schools) are eligible to apply.
