Artist Statement: Are you only yourself with nobody around?
I originally picked a reference for this painting based on the interesting and colorful lighting. I already knew that I wanted to experiment more with the style of my work, so I used a palette knife to lay down definite strokes of colors. The process of painting this one was arduous yet rewarding; I had never painted in such bright colors in such a carefree and non-definite way.
To me, this girl represents a very climactic feeling. Overwhelming and bright. Her face is neutral, yet there’s so much happening around her. She’s influenced and colored by the things around her. The picture that this painting is referenced from immediately stuck out to me for this reason.
