Artist Statement: The subjects of my paintings are vintage toys, antique photographs, and other childhood objects from a previous era. The objects I choose survived the ravages of time and are worn, torn, or rusted. Painting with watercolor allows me to portray the characteristics of age due to the layering ability and spontaneity of the medium. My paintings are created from life and are generally life-size to reinforce the fact that these are objects of reality. My paintings are often set in a dark nondescript place with a single light source applied directly on the subject. This metaphysical world becomes a place of reflection and keeps the viewers focus solely on the object.
