Artist Statement: This is a ceramic bust of the Statue of Liberty, which has been broken, melted, and ultimately destroyed. Women in the United States Government are shown within this work. There aren’t enough women in politics and it causes men to make decisions for us increasing the patriarchal society we live in. The Statue of Liberty is a woman figure representing a better life for people, she says “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” This art is in connection with the recent political efforts made by the United States government in putting a halt on women’s rights and their “yearning to be free” with their right to choose what happens to their own bodies.
