Artist Statement: I am very interested in the incorporation of human life and emotion through the way I display my artwork. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination of drawing subjects that were humans and as I grew older, my interest and passion for the psychological and sociological studies in general also grew. I try to include positive elements to have a juxtaposing idea to my artwork of an often looked at negative emotion, but I try to bring light into these deeper emotions in order to highlight the important aspects of having them. To not always be ashamed of feeling them and rather than shunning them, bringing them up to the surface. My process always starts with the face, which I create with graphite. I highlight elements and shadows to create deeper depth. Graphite has always been my favorite material to use on human faces for this reason. I have practiced with colored pencil and other material but I find graphite works the best for me.
