Teacher Name: Naambia Mitchell, Alice Costas, and Joanne Minyo
Grade: 11

Materials: Felt
Dimensions: 2cm x 8cm, 5cm x 4cm
Description: This was my first real attempt felting and I really like how they turned out. This is a set and they do not separate, that is why they are one submission together.

Artist Statement: My name is Eve Oppenheim and I am a junior in high school. I fell in love with art from the day I learned how to use my hands to create things. I have always tried to find new ways to express myself through new forms of visual media. This passion has stayed with me as I’ve grown up and I am still infatuated with the creating process. One method that has really stuck with me is metalsmithing. I started when I was 9 and have loved it ever since, it’s actually what I want to focus on when I go to college and pursue as a career. The next two pieces I will show you are two that I have spent the most time working on and they have pushed the limits of what I can do with metal.
Another important thing in my life is my love of animals, which has also followed me since childhood. I love to incorporate animals into my work and life, especially my dogs. I’ve grown up with dogs and they have become my muses for many projects. I love this one project in particular because it was my first experience felting and I love the way they turned out. I have three chihuahuas and they each have their own personalities and fur patterns which I tried to capture in these little felted sculptures of them. I think these sculptures perfectly represent my dogs and highlight the range of my art.
