Artist Statement: “Like No One’s Watching” is meant to embrace the loose messiness of expressing emotions through music. As students go through school, adults manage work, and people walk around in public, society places unspoken pressures on how to behave within these settings. These pressures restrict us from fully expressing ourselves. People find outlets to express their “quirky” traits by using social media, art, and music. The person wearing headphones while listening to music is meant to represent the effect of these outlets. Music can help a person feel free and relief from that pressure, causing them to express themselves on a higher level. The messiness of the rendering, the gaps of color that can be seen through the piece, and the person coming out of a dark red box conveys this freedom and fluidity of expression.
