Artist Statement: I submitted two artworks: one I painted with acrylic and a digital one. The painting is one that is inspired by the vintage and antique aesthetic that is made to be a desk that has a set of particular items based on that aesthetic. I started off with a sketch taken from different images put together to make the desk have these items. Then, I painted the items from the back such as the books and background then to the front, which would be the quill. This was my first time trying to paint something realistic, and although it was a tedious process, I loved how it turned out The digital art one I made as a part of a school assignment and I really enjoyed the process of making it. I’ve never been able to work with Adobe Photoshop so the whole process was extremely new to me. The assignment was to sketch and color block a picture you had taken. My picture was the building I see coming out of my house, a view I’d always seen growing up. Although I’ve never been inside, the building is comforting because it’s familiar to me. In the making of this, I got to use a drawing tablet, which took time to adjust to but I ended up loving it. I loved experiencing the different textured brushes and being able to create texture or depth in my artwork.
