Artist Statement: The project I have committed my senior year towards is creating a series on how I deal and co-exist with my mental illnesses. Where I depict my life dealing with my daily obstacles and struggles. I plan to bring light to the impact they have on me and my surroundings and to others who can relate with the similarities. With my series I share my story and hope to create a connection to the viewer. My series contains a mixture of still-lifes, portraiture, documentation, and replication. I want to bring to life my thoughts and feelings during certain moments and how they exist within my mind. I chose this for my series to not only grow and accept my obstacles but to progress as an artist through vulnerability with my artist practice. My vulnerability not only comes from the topic but from being comfortable with my face behind the camera. My art, my series, and concentration topic are pieces of myself I can’t change but accept and make me the individual I am. This series has been a great challenge and one I look forward to accomplish while strengthening my photographing skills.
