Artist Statement: I’m Mel Gbadzi. I’m an artist. I see the world through a simultaneously visual lens as well as the fact that I’m creative and I’m also a human being. I made it because I’ve always felt like I needed a way to express the way I see the way world, and art has always been a part of me. And the moment I was able to, I held onto it the first time and the last because I’m not taking that chance back. I utilize illustration and the concept of child-like wonder to express my art. I use lines and and shadows to express emotion, and I use them to make my art mine. I believe in the concept of not having to use a lot to express art. I used to feel like it’s a weakness but I embrace it as a strength.
