Artist Statement: Cohesion has always been pushed as the goal of a portfolio and, despite that, there is a clear lack of it here. When I first began creating art, I reached for that cohesion, a style, my “thing” as an artist. I wanted something to define me and the things I made, I wanted something to be recognizable in my work. I tried for style before I really grasped the concept of what it meant to be creative. I can’t help but feel I went about it in a mixed up order and as of late, I’ve been working backwards from where I started; Focusing on the experimentation with what’s possible. I’ve made an effort to reach out and try different mediums, different techniques, and different subjects. I’ve made peace with the thought that I don’t have to have a “thing” just yet. I can just create for the sake of creating; I will make art for the sake of itself.
