Description: This piece is inspired by the song “Time Moves Slow” by BADBADNOTGOOD. The song sounds calm and to me calm music sounds like something you would hear in the midst of nowhere. I wanted to portray what I imagine every time I hear this song.

Artist Statement: These pieces were all made during my art class and/or the After School Matters session I am a part of called Community Influenced Pop Art. I wanted to show work that shows a diversity in mediums, but also show what I enjoy drawing and what pieces I’m personally proud of. I enjoy drawing character art, it’s what got me to continue practicing and drawing. I love creating different designs and worlds for them to interact in. I also wanted to show a piece from the portraits I have done. Despite me mostly enjoying more cartoon styles, my portrait work has been something I am proud of. One medium I enjoy working with is acrylic paint. I find it easier to work with and more forgiving to mistakes than other paints. The only other paint I have used is watercolor and I find that one is harder to control than acrylic. Another medium I enjoy is pencil, it’s quick and easy to work with. The same goes for charcoal, most people have trouble with it, but I find it fun. It’s able to create darker lines and shadows than pencil is able to make. Animatics is something I have always wanted to do, but I, at that time, didn’t have a tablet or stylus to create the frames digitally. I figured, why not make it on paper and then take pictures and edit it together in a video editing app. So, that’s what I did to make the animatic I have shown here. I used alcohol markers for the base colors and then watercolor gouache for shading. I used watercolor gouache because it was the only type of watercolor I have. I specifically used it since it can create thin layers of color. I also never used alcohol markers and watercolor gouache together so I wanted to experiment combining the two mediums.
