Artist Statement: Most of the work I put into this portfolio is from the one I submitted to the AP college board at the beginning of this year. Each one falls under the theme of irrational fears. The process I took in starting this portfolio was interviewing family and friends about the small things they feared in life. It surprised me how things that might not seem so frightening to others are terrifying to them. So I took their thoughts, nightmares, and deepest fears and turned them into a chain of pieces that represented such thoughts. At the time I didn’t have access to a lot of materials, so the mediums for each of the pieces are very limited. Even though I don´t have much experience with many other mediums I am taking the time now and planning to continue experimenting with new materials. I´m currently a senior in high school and I´m testing out different materials and seeing how they fit with my style. I am always looking for ways to improve, open to new ideas and constructive criticism. A lot of the work I do is similar to the work seen in graphic novels. Graphic novels, cartoons, and movies are where I get most of my inspiration. Along with several animators and creators, such as Jhonen Vazquez. Rebecca Sugar, Stephan Hillenburg, and Pendleton Ward. Writing and/ or illustrating a comic or making a cartoon of my own are some of the goals I have. I have accumulated a number of stories and ideas. I look forward to the point in my life where I can bring this mess of dreams to life. It´s something that I have been interested in for the longest now.
