Artist Statement: Growing up in Chicago, my exposure to various artistic aspects has been extremely abundant throughout my life and has shaped how I go about creating and observing art. Throughout my art journey, my style has taken many different forms due to experimentation, observing other artists, and taking risks that would have otherwise been considered unnecessary. Using both nature and man made materials to determine a concept for a piece, I consider whatever idea comes to mind first and try to build upon my first thought. This helps me to see what I can improve as well as what techniques or materials I would like to expand on using in the future.
Observing both urban and natural landscapes has been a prime influence in how I create my pieces. Using consistent patterns of nature as well as urbanization has helped guide my work as well as the techniques that I use. More specifically, settings like the gardens at Garfield Park Conservatory and Lake Michigan have led me to pay attention to the mood and cohesiveness of my own work. Such inspiration has enabled me to pay special attention to the themes in my artwork which has expanded across multiple mediums and methods such as photography and drawing. Though not every piece is rooted in these aspects, it is important for me to take note of what real life influences help me develop ideas and improve my work.
