Artist Statement: I have created these pieces as a reflection of myself and my own personal feelings which many times I have difficulty expressing in words. When I feel I am going through a tough time or an overwhelming amount of feelings, these pieces and art in general allow me to pull myself back together and take how I am feeling in a new light which I could understand. Normally all my work isn’t planned. I just start drawing and slowly let my art flow or piece itself together. The matter of medium is how I feel. I have used micron pens because they are a fine tool which you cannot mess with. When I feel frazzled I want to just scribble and be loose but using these pens allows me to slow down. I do more tedious work which I have to think about carefully. Using a pencil allows me to take a more realistic and at the same time surreal approach which makes my work sometimes make you uncomfortable and it feels more real and allows for one to feel more connected. To me I have grown to have a very strong connection to my piece. It is almost a timeline of what I’ve been through and how I have coped and come out of the situation. Could see my own progression and see the changes that I did to my art and myself. I hope to allow other people to see that they aren’t alone and life is a journey which may feel difficult but there’s always a way out even if it takes a long process it is possible.
