Artist Statement:  I drew my one and only older sister (Aria). She’s away in Massachusetts for college, so I decided to draw her to send to her so she knows that I still think about her and miss her. We try to stay in contact but we both are always pretty busy, so this has been a fun way to share something. Aria is definitely one of the most important people in my life and I admire and have such great respect and pride for her. The reference photo I used was one (of several) selfies we took together before she flew to Massachusetts. It was a bitter-sweet moment, but it was also a fun day that we spent together and got even closer. With our faces squished together and smiling big and wide, I want viewers to be able to see a happy, cherishing, exciting moment – a new chapter for both of us. The background is split blue and pink for the “cheesy” saying, “Two halves make whole.” Growing up, our mom would dress me up in everything pink or red, and Aria would wear everything blue or purple.
