Description: Behind curtains to reveal a decadent performance
Artist Statement: “You peer behind curtains to reveal a decadent performance…” In this piece, I wanted to draw from the operatic inspirations that were present in my childhood; in animations like Fantasia to when I was cast in kabuki theatre productions. The aesthetics, music, bedazzling and often sensational atmosphere of theatre have had me starstruck for as long as I can remember. This ties into my understanding of the ‘nature of queerness’ in my own identity as a transgender person and as a young artist. Opulence in vibrant colors is sometimes hidden just beyond a thin veil.
