Artist Statement: The work I created is mainly inspired by a burst of creativity from being in a learning environment after covid. One of my proudest pieces I completed focused on covid and the importance of wearing a mask. To prepare for this I had to sketch my drawing onto a building and prepare the design since it was meant to be completed as a mural for a project. I made it by making my theme about covid and coming up with the idea to do a beginning, middle, and end of the pandemic. My artistic process for this was sketching the design over and over again so that when I transferred it onto media paper I was confident in my work and familiar with the design. With this specific piece, I had submitted to an architecture and design competition not thinking much of it. I then was awarded first place for my community mural and that is why this work of art is very special to me. Other works that I complete I do for fun. I feel inspired when looking at other’s artwork and therefore most of my work is drawn from characters or my imagination. Typically I make these works of art on a drawing tablet. My artistic process is completely different when I’m drawing something on my own time because I try to have more fun and more of a flow in experimentation since it isn’t for a grade. My artistic process is me browsing reference photos on the internet until inspiration strikes and then I draw what comes to mind on my drawing app. I enjoy working digitally more because it is more sufficient and I have a wider variety of colors and tools. This work means a lot to me because it shows my progress and in the future, I’m able to look back at my work and be proud of myself for it.
