Description: This piece is a continuation of me experimenting with color and small detailing/patterning to give a wavy, organic style.
Artist Statement: Ever since I was a child, I’ve had an incredible fascination with color and a simple need to create things. My art journey has progressed from simple, colorful, meaningless abstract paintings, to a more organic, experimental, and technical style. But this time, I created them with stories and feelings that captivated me, figuratively sewn into my pieces. When my art takes me somewhere so interesting, I ask myself what the purpose of my art is, and why I feel the need to express myself in the way I do. Last year during my first year of AP Art class, I created a digital portfolio from certain important images from my past. My portfolio consisted of digital drawings of me in a scene or landscape. For each piece, the background and mood were specifically selected to mold the atmosphere into what emotions were being felt at the time I took them. The pieces in this specific portfolio were created to share my experiences dealing with Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, and anxiety, and to show an evolution of how far I’ve come. My most recent portfolio in progress from this year’s AP Art class is a painting portfolio, taking a much deeper look at the insides of things. I’m always constantly learning new things and techniques to help improve my art, which is a plus of being a very quick learner. I’m inspired by the cellular makeup of things and a microscopic kind of feeling and approach. With this portfolio, I wanted it to be different in the sense that it’s more organic, abstract, and free-flowing to, in a way, represent the flow of my emotions and the unpredictability of who I am. I want my artwork to represent the insides of myself, and what swirls around beneath the surface.
