Artist Statement: The sandy beaches of the lakefront in Chicago and the ocean where I grew up have always given me an experience of the vastness of the world. This pandemic, of course, has made all our worlds much smaller. That juxtaposition of how small our worlds have become with how big it still is beyond our doors and masks is contained in this beaded tapestry, smaller than the palm of your hand. But it has no framing boundary, reminding me that even as we’re trapped inside, the big ol’ world is still out there.
