Artist Statement: I painted “Bear Lake” in 2020, right around the time of the quarantine. I wanted to portray a scene of a secluded lake, where a mother bear and her cub awaken after a long hibernation period. After a long, arduous winter, flowers are blooming, grass is growing, and nature is thriving once again. This imagery can be viewed literally or metaphorically, but either way it is symbolic of optimism and hope. It is not based on any specific geographic location, but rather a general setting, isolated from pollution and human interference. It represents renewal, tranquility and freedom.
