Artist Statement: In my piece “Faces of the City”, I used collage and drawing to combine images of 1918 (another pandemic year) and present day Chicago.I used the contrast between black and white charcoal and colored pastel images to convey the often clashing and contradictory events taking place in the same place and time. Focusing on themes of human resilience and connections throughout time and space, this piece attempts to showcase a city’s struggles and triumphs in the past and present.
