Description: I created this piece, “Artificial” to explore the complex, strange, and surreal way of life that we are enduring in this pandemic – and generally, tumultuous time. In order to tap into the “unreal” feeling that I, and many others, are experiencing, I digitally modified a photograph I took earlier this year. The modifications make it look uncanny and strange – nearly fitting into the “uncanny valley”. As a result, image looks unusual and dreamlike – which is precisely how day-to-day life feels for many.
