Description: If you open an umbrella indoors, bad luck will ‘rain’ on you. For my rotoscope animation, I created sixty-four hand-drawn frames in a loop enacting a modern superstition. My irrational fears had not passed, but I had managed to channel them into a vessel of artistic expression. Though I may still reap its outcomes, I found beauty in my misfortune.
Artist Statement: This piece is one half of a two-part series, and it is the only one in which the moves are not simulated–logistically, I could not break a mirror inside of my home. Because of the nature of rotoscope animation, this project involved other aspects that I was surprised to encounter, like the process of capturing the perfect frame, and even a little bit of choreography as well.
