Artist Statement: The idea of using patterns to create landscape came from Joseph Yoakum’s artwork. Like the artist, traveling was something very special and for me my first experience was going to Wisconsin. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery of hills and lakes so I decided to draw a special location in Wisconsin called the Devils Lake. Using a cool color scheme I wanted to portray the wonderful nature that I experienced during my trip. Using patterns such as circular motion or crosshatch marking was to purposely not make my landscape seem realistic but in a way to let the audience know that patterns could also create the form of scenery. It was one of the most memorable moment of my life in which I’m able to put it on my art piece.
