Artist Statement:
Charles White is an African American painter. He draws with charcoal and he draws people he admires who work hard. I drew my Mom because she is a hard worker. I used the face proportions to show her eyes and nose I also used shading to try to show the nose. I used ABC blocks to show she takes care for kids, the apple to show she is teacher, and a frying pan to show she cooks. My work is similar to Charles White’s because he draws people who he thinks are a hero and I drew my Mom because I think she is a hero.
