Artist Statement: Bats are important to me because they are one of the best natural indicators of the health of our environment. Bats also control pest control, they are seed distributors, and pollinators. I was inspired me to learn about bats because they are the only mammals that can really fly. Their wings are like human hands but have very long fingers and the skin is stretched out between them. I created my art piece by painting a watercolor sunset as my background and decided to put a moon as well, since bats are nocturnal. I wanted to draw my bat with color pencils and markers. A message I would like to give is that people should stop being afraid of bats and that they are essential to human life.
