Artist Statement: With my work, I like to explore ideas of tragedy and identity, and I like to explore these ideas through things found in horror films. I’m particularly inspired by Mary Shelley, Guillermo Del Toro, and Neil Gaiman’s bodies of work, along with films such as Anna Biller’s 2016 film The Love Witch and Stuart Gordon’s 1985 film Re-Animator. I also explore human rights issues in my work, as I tend to be very politically active, and I feel like using horror imagery helps me better illustrate my thoughts and feelings towards human rights issues today.
