Students in Ceramics and Creative Arts were partially in person and remote this fall. The in person sessions explored traditional and contemporary hand-building (slabs, pinching, coil building) by discovering and developing textures. After researching artists, scavenging images of all different textures online, students got serious and created a series of work that focused on forms and textures. The remote sessions focused on creative change and metamorphosis with students beginning an ongoing altered book project. Students were asked to reflect on “What message are you trying to convey in your art?” Through research, deconstruction/creation, and reflection, students are gaining an awareness of their personal voice in the artwork they create.
