Description: “Thinking.” was made with the word ‘contrast’ in mind. The face depicts a woman who seems to be distressed to make the viewer curious as to why she may feel that way. At the same time, the various colors used seem to brighten her up and cancel out what her face is trying to show.
Artist Statement: Since I began drawing in elementary school, I’ve come to the realization that I do not have a certain method or process when it comes to creating my art. I sometimes get inspired by a certain emotion or feeling and try to focus my thinking on that one word. Other times, an experience or a song will give me an idea that I sketch out and begin to slowly change it until the end piece is something I’m happy with. There are also multiple cases where a completely random idea will pop in my head and that’s what it ends up being. Something random but it satisfies me so I continue on with it.
I think it’s also important to note that my art is almost always done in one sitting. I always feel like I might lose some of my ideas for what I want to have on the paper or canvas so I try to create it as I’m coming up with it. I’ve usually stuck to graphite and acrylic paint for the reason being that they are able to make an abrupt change to a drawing and they are quick to dry. The tools I’ve chosen to make any art with are usually ones that I am comfortable with but I will try to experiment with other materials to see if it better conveys what I want my piece to look or feel like.
