Artist Statement:

I mostly enjoy working in a sculpture medium because it gives me the freedom to play with angles and shadows and magical elements that couldn’t be found in a 2D picture. It also lets me work hands-on which really changes the game when it comes to a stress relieving and relaxing hobby. I find myself often creating art that reminds me of moments in my childhood or the past several years that I yearn to go back to. In recent years I have really had issues with nostalgia getting in the way of the present so I find it helpful to express some of that nostalgia in my creations, honoring my favorite memories and people through art. One of my favorite parts of making art lately has been the struggle of being precise and detailed, not because it’s fun to be frustrated, but because I get to feel so proud when a piece I spent weeks on comes out exactly how I envisioned it. I tend to be more detail focused instead of looking at the bigger picture so one of my least favorite parts of sculpting is building a base and getting the beginning steps down. So when it comes to the time for detail that’s where I get to shine and show how much I care for my work.
