Artist Statement:

As I go through my journey in art making, I constantly experiment with materials, play with techniques, and go through trial and error to find the right ideas. That is why for me, creating art is so much more about the process than the end result, and it feels so personal to me. Art has always been a way I could process my emotions and thoughts, so many themes in my art surround my childhood experiences. In a portfolio I created last year, I explored several of these memories, using my go-to technique of acrylic paint and colored pencils together to create a playful and bright atmosphere. However, currently I am creating a portfolio about my more recent struggles with vulnerability, and I have tried to create a more tense and repressed feeling in these pieces. I have experimented with scratchboard to do this, and an example would be my piece In Hiding. Another common theme in my art making is that most of my pieces are portraits. I feel as though I am getting to know myself and others in a different way when I paint or draw portraits, as I spend so much time on them and they almost feel intimate to create. Overall, I hope to continue experimenting and finding new techniques so I can keep growing and evolving as an artist.
