Artist Statement:

My piece is about glossophobia (fear of public speaking). I decided to draw a crowd of people staring at one person to depict the isolating and intense pressure of glossophobia. The person in the middle is meant to relfect a younger me as I’ve been dealing with a fear of public speaking for most of my life. The different speech bubbles are actual things that people have said to me due to my quietness. To create the piece, I used watercolor, fine point pent, gel pen, and paint. I used watercolor to create a stage-like effect to emphasize the feeling of being under a spotlight. I hope that this piece can connect to those with glossophobia, while also helping people gain a deeper understanding of this phobia.
