Description: Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a black person, I felt isolated in a community I didn’t belong in. The closer you get to the left, the more visible the distortion of repeating white figures are. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith inspired the blackout in the background, creating an ominous tone emphasizing the dripping phrase on the foreground, “NOT WELCOMED HERE” to symbolize my feelings of isolation. The darkened side says not welcomed, and the highlighted side says welcomed here.
