Artist Statement: “Mindscape” is one of my first automatic paintings and currently is my largest finished work using this process. It was an experiment in mark-making, texture, technique, scale, and color. Intuitive mark-making was something I’ve practiced, but to create an entire work solely through that process was entirely new to me going into this painting. I had chosen to make the work while processing feelings around inadequacy in my art, schoolwork, and relationships. Through making this piece, I was able to rediscover my confidence and accurately describe how I was feeling when I couldn’t find the words or space to make sense of what was happening.
