Artist Statement: Although most of my artwork is made for an assignment, the reason they are the shape they are, look the way they do, and are colored the way they are is that I believed I couldn’t do it. There have been many times when I have scrapped an idea or left a project unfinished due to the fear of being unable to execute it. As a result of this fear, I have spent countless days avoiding using unknown material, countless days waiting for the time I feel my skills are good enough to do justice to my ideas, and countless days unsatisfied with a single line, dot, or color choice. After a while, I realized just how comfortable I had become, and because of that, I began to branch out to the things I never thought I could do.
Soon enough, I began to execute my ideas even if I thought they wouldn’t look like how I envisioned. I began to use clay and colored pencils and do any idea that popped up in my head, regardless of whether I had little experience with the materials. I want my artwork to show a representation of who I am: someone who is willing to make mistakes and work with any mishaps along the way. For that reason, I will continue to work on projects and follow through on ideas even if I have doubts about my ability to execute them.
