Artist Statement:
This piece was taken in the Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen. Pilsen has historically been a sanctuary neighborhood for immigrant families rather than the overpriced tourist sight it is becoming. Throughout frequently visiting Pilsen’s streets, I noticed how graffiti had become an outlet for people living within Pilsen’s underserved community to express themselves and their care for contemporary social issues and beautify their surroundings. This is a recent documentation of cultural roots continuing to materialize.
