Artist Statement:
Cuauhtli is the Nahuatl (indigenous language of the Aztecs) word for Eagle. This is a photo of a staple statue within the Heart of Chicago, Pilsen. This statue was made to pridefully represent the Mexican-American community that has resided in Pilsen for years. I took this photo in order to represent the neighborhood’s Mexican-American identity while simultaneously representing my own identity.
