Artist Statement:
Inspired by Marcelo Jimenez’s photograph, this artwork represents the lives of many women in Mexico who live a life of domesticity, a cycle passed down through generations. This artwork is meant to appreciate the work that these women do and acknowledge their hardships. The repetitive usage of bricks symbolizes being bricked in, enclosed and unable to escape this traditional role. The size of the brick is meant to emphasize this, as they dominate over the women similar to how the roles do.
