Artist Statement: My artistic practice begins with reflecting on my personal experiences and conducting thorough research on the theme of my piece. This often involves studying the work of other artists and exploring media, such as movies and shows, that resonate with me. I aim to combine their influence with my own voice, shaped by my personal feelings and perspectives. For animation, I start with storyboards or character designs, followed by background designs. As I develop these elements, I focus on evoking a specific emotional response from the audience, striving to maintain a cohesive flow throughout the work. I then either keyframe the main poses and refine the animation for smoothness and detail or approach it frame by frame from the start. When working on a painting or sketch, my process is similar however I usually create multiple sketches to best capture the character or scene, refining the details as I go.I chose these five pieces for my portfolio because they represent the types of work I enjoy creating: backgrounds, close-ups, full-body shots, and animation. The piece “Dance” came from a dance program I recently joined, which motivated me to research different dance styles. “Placid” and “Tension” reflect my fascination with backgrounds, with each piece aiming to evoke a different emotion. For the “Step Up” animation, I wanted to highlight a key movement, so I chose an exaggerated step to capture the action. Finally, “Attention” is a close-up of a boy, chosen to add variety to my portfolio.
