Artist Statement:
Modern Mythology is based on mythology, but with the twist of problems and things that occur today. I chose the Chinese myth of Huxian, a mischevious nine-tailed fox who seduced people with wealth to lead them into hedonism and moral ruin. I chose to represent the mental health effects of the internet, specifically social media, using this fox that leads people to an endless pursuit of pleasure. I also portrayed overconsumption and fast fashion by having the TV, that this character was entranced by, portray some advertisement pushing the need to buy in their face. I also made the room messy to represent depression as an effect, as that can lead to executive dysfunction.
