Artist Statement:
My name is Fawzeeyah Giwa, I’m a 5th grader at Mcdowell Elementary and I painted the “Cotton Cloud”. I painted this because I want to show a happy painting, and I want the painting to feel abstract and dreamy. My art is inspired by an abstract artist named Joan Mitchell. My art process began with the idea of a bright sunset but I realized that dreams have a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations so, I decided to add these key points into my painting, creating a surreal dystopia. When people look at my painting I want them to feel hope, joy, and inspiration. I also think that they will feel this way because of the bright, chaotic colors in my painting. Some of the colors I used were yellow, pink, and blue to represent free spirited, unpredictability, and optimism.
