Artist Statement: Im a firm believer that art is important to make and share because of the different perspectives each individual has. Each person sees different beautiful or captivating components of life and the human condition, and art is a way to exaggerate and recreate that perspective. My piece “Memories” came from a stargazing trip with friends. It takes the weight I felt in my memory and immortalizes it onto paper. As I felt the amazement of seeing a comet race across the sky already fading away, I wanted to visualize the emotion. I went back to the grassy field, daydreaming of that night, and that moment. Sure in reality, the star was a split second white outline. But the wonder of space and simultaneous love for my friends in my memory added warmth and beauty. Did my friends see the same comet? Probably not. They saw different shapes, colors, textures, and felt a different significance. This is the comet I saw.
