Artist Statement:
In my painting “Changing Perspectives,” I aim to shift perspectives of mental health by creating a visual and emotional experience that words alone cannot capture. Through the use of different colors and textures, my painting reflects a range of emotional struggles such as anxiety, depression and resilience, making these experiences more relatable. My piece is meant to evoke empathy, allowing viewers to see mental health challenges from a new lens. The different faces represent all people who are affected by mental health issues including family members, friends and those facing mental health challenges themselves. The faces depict the diverse perspectives and experiences people have with mental health.
