Description: El Poder del Amor piece was made for a metalsmithing project in which I had to create something with a deep personal connection to me. Upon brainstorming, I knew that I wanted to find a shape within the metal that was connected to my Mexican heritage. I remembered the Aztec myth my parents used to tell me of the two volcanos located in Mexico: Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, named after the protagonists of a love story. Unfortunately, theirs was a story that ended in tragedy and sorrow. However, their love seemed to live on in the volcanos, despite their tragic circumstances.

My work gives a glimpse into my heart and the belief that love lives on eternally, thriving through even the harshest challenges. I enjoyed making it out of metal and found it to be another indicator of how strong love can be; whether it be for a person or even an idea. I was also overjoyed when I was told I would be able to give my piece a red patina. I would go on to use the patina to give the metal a lively and fiery look.
