Artist Statement: This portrait was assigned to me as the first project in my art class, and was meant to showcase pieces of my personality and some of my interests. I could have decided to place the items floating around me but I wanted to show the things that reflect me the most in a more thoughtful way in addition to my love for mirrors, so I decided to use it to my advantage. The process of brainstorming this took me a few days and I also had 2 failed attempts at the sketch. The main problem was the facial features themselves and the placement of each one. I did use a reference photo of myself to draw the portrait. After many attempts to replicate my photo I decided to grid the photo and draw the portrait box by box. When the portrait was down I then started to use my previous idea of the mirror to create the illusion of the things I like being reflected off the mirror. This portrait allowed me to show my love for art and attention to details.
