Description: The cool color scheme of my body represents a feeling of sadness and angst that I feel. With a dark background representing anxiety and stress surrounding the portrait. The contrast in tones in the warm colored cat represents the way my cat lights up my life, causing the darkness to go away. The harsh brushstrokes created by acrylic paint to form depth in the fur of the cat.
Artist Statement: Holding on and finding comfort in the memories that have stayed with me through bad and good times, the feeling and the event happening in that moment. The things that make it special to me, what differentiates a memory from a comfort memory? “memories around big events seem clearer, but the periphery disappears, you remember the feeling, not the details” A striking quote from my favorite tv show ultimately inspiring me to create this exhibition. In a certain way emphasizing both the feeling and details and in others the details but not the feeling. Manipulating the color into a way to portray the emotion felt in the moment. Alongside that, a glimmer of my identity and the things that blend together to make me, me. The viewer is guided throughout the memories in my life that have shaped me in multiple ways, whether it was a memory that made me or broke me, or both changing me. Guided through the growth of my art beginning with scott street, medias ranging from markers and soft pastels, to color pencils, and finally acrylic. A feeling of growth as an artist and matureness as a person is achieved. With the graphite and soft pastels i was able to create a contrast in which the graphite showed much more detail to capture the main detail of a memory. The works connected by a gold thread, one portrayed in marker in the work invisible string, a string connecting the people meant to be in my life, many of which I met because of my sport. Leading to the end of the golden string in the work, the archer, a work showing comfort in running, the only work in which the color stays true to the inspiration, a metaphor to running being the only place in which I feel real, alive. As in the end, the true invisible string in my life was the running that created a pathway to become the person I am today and meet the people I love. The artworks together create a combination of the different color scheme of emotions a memory can bring you as well as how it captures the viewers attention to notice the tiny details that make up my memory and art. While these memories all contrast in emotion and feeling, they all hold the same importance and value as they all form my ultimate identity.
