Artist Statement: My painting is called “Heart Wave”. I was inspired by Hokusai’s “The Great Wave”. My piece mimics water moving, splashing and crashing, with different shades of blue. I brushed curved lines and light dabs with tempera and acrylic paint. I was excited to paint this piece because it made me feel calm and relaxed. I also enjoyed using color to add dimension and texture. I accomplished my goal of painting my own wave. I wanted to share a sunset view over the ocean with clashing warm and cool colors. It was challenging finding the right shades of blue and making it look like water. Doing this piece makes me want to do more nature paintings at different times of the day.
