Artist Statement: I create work to spread awareness for issues/problems women face in society. My piece is an installation piece in which I drew out Disney princesses that were manipulated to look more modern and be seen as feminists. I created four different princesses with different styles and different messages to the world about what women can do. I tend to choose the color red for most of my pieces as I’m heavily inspired by the artist Barbara Kruger. I also wanted the words to stand out as much as possible for things that women cannot control because of the society we are put into and treated the way we are. My work means a lot to me because I myself am a woman in today’s society, and I know firsthand how we are treated just because we are women. I want to create impactful pieces that make people think about what they have done, and what they can prevent themselves from doing to women.
